There is nothing like having a few trees around your home. They add curb appeal, shade from the sun, and they just look nice. But sometimes trees can be too close to the home. How close is too close? That is a question that a lot of people ask when it comes to trees and their homes. So what is the answer?
Most organizations agree that about 3 feet is a good clearance for most vegetation. But that is a rule that is not always easy to follow. Perhaps you like to plant close to the home, or maybe you have an older home that has more vegetation and old trees that you love, or what if you are taking advantage of passive solar heat? What then?
Even if you don’t have the ideal, cookie-cutter situation, you can still use the principle of that rule. For instance, keeping tree limbs from overhanging the roof and keeping vegetation from directly touching the home is still better than letting it just grow wild.
That same 3 foot principle can be also applied to any vegetation around your home. This is especially true when it comes to shrubbery, large grassy plants, and even flowers.
While that seems extreme, trees and plants too close to your home can encourage and cause many issues. Damage to your home, insect issues, and moisture problems being just a few of them. So keeping trees (and other vegetation) as far from your home as possible is very important.
