There’s nothing more annoying than a leaky faucet. That constant drip is not only a tedious sound but a costly one. Hundreds of gallons of water are wasted because of a leaking faucet. Can I fix that drip myself? Of course, you can and it’s much easier than you might think.

Fixing a leaky faucet does not have to be very time-consuming. The good news is that the fix can be done in no time. Here are just a few things to keep in mind:

  • Firstlly, make sure the water to the sink is shut off. The valves are usually under the sink, but if they’re not there they can usually be found in the basement or near the washer and dryer.
  • Because you’ll be working with small screws and pieces you want to make sure that the drain is closed and shut. This will prevent anything from going down the drain.
  • The next step is to disassemble the existing faucet. Hopefully, all you have to do is remove the handle, but if not when you disassemble everything pay attention to the order of the parts.
  • The next step is to check all of the parts. Seals, rubber washers, O-rings, these are all usually the cause of the problem. So examine each of these parts and clean them all well. Replace any broken or worn parts.
  • After you cleaned and replaced any broken parts you want to reassemble the faucet in the same order that you took it apart.
  • Now you can put it all back together. So with the tools, you have on hand simply reverse the order that you dismantled the faucet.
  • Now you get to test it out. Turn the water back on slowly and let the water run until it flows normally.

The leaking should stop and you most likely have fixed the problem.
