Cockroaches are never welcome in a home, and yet, once they get in it can be very hard to get rid of them. Perhaps one of the best ways to avoid a cockroach infestation is to make your home as unappealing to them as possible. How can you do this?

Some things will attract cockroaches more than others. For example, they thrive in dirty, greasy, and humid environments. One area of the home most likely to provide these conditions is the kitchen. Make sure that the kitchen is thoroughly cleaned on regular basis, this should include cleaning underneath and behind all the appliances, even the large ones. It is best to store food in containers that have tightly sealed lids. Try not to keep food out for any length of time and, if you have pets, don’t leave their food out for long either.

Do you have any areas in your home that are prone to excess moisture, such as the bathroom or basement? Try to keep these areas as dry as possible to avoid attracting cockroaches. Keep your eye out for leaking or dripping pipes or plumbing fixtures which will also draw them in.

Have you ever noticed that cockroaches avoid light? To keep them at bay, you may want to leave a couple of lights on at night.
