With thefts and burglaries being a common occurrence this time of year, we thought it would be a good idea to discuss ways to protect your valuables. Although there are many high-tech ways to protect your home and precious items, the following suggestions are simple, old-fashioned methods that won’t cost you money, but may be just as effective.

If a thief manages to break into your home, they will want to be in and out as quickly as they can, so they will likely look in the more obvious places for valuables. To protect these items, store them in places difficult to access. For example, most of us use our garages as a place to keep storage boxes full of belongings – these boxes are a good place to put our valuables, as a thief will not want to spend much time rifling through boxes marked old decorating supplies, etc.

Another place people would not think to look for valuables is in the trash can. Hide smaller items underneath a garbage bag in the trash can in your bathroom or kitchen. The underneath of a plant pot also works well, as long as you put your valuables in a protective cover first.

Some people have a safe in their homes. It is worth noting that if you decide to get a safe, it is better to get a floor safe than a wall safe, as a wall safe can be removed much easier.

These are just a few old-fashioned ways to keep your precious belongings safe. Don’t forget, however, to ensure your valuables and protect yourself even more.
