Oh, the joy of becoming a Plant Daddy or Plant Mama to lots of Plant Babies! Indoor house plants are such an enjoyable and refreshing hobby. Not only does it bring joy to the homeowner to watch your plant babies thrive and grow, but it does beautiful things for the indoor air quality.
Indoor air quality is much more polluted than outdoor air. Indoor air is infused with a host of chemicals and toxins. This is especially seen in newer and tighter homes that don’t allow for fresh air to filter in. 90% of our time is spent indoors so there is a definite need for remediation of the air. Green leafy house plants added to the indoors is a great way to do this.
Studies suggest that the average houseplant can remove formaldehyde, benzene, and a host of other toxins that plague typical indoor air. Plants can reduce stress, increase work performance, and reduce symptoms of ill health.
For example, 15 to 18 houseplants in 6- to 8-inch diameter containers would improve air quality in a 1,800-square-foot house. The larger and more vigorously they grow, the better.
A few words of caution, indoor plants will affect the moisture content of the air, which must be regulated so as not to promote mold growth. Keeping an eye out for the proper balance is important. Also, be sure to make sure plant containers are not leaking and can lead to cosmetic and even moisture-related structural problems.
Plant babies will enhance the aesthetic environment and the air quality inside our homes. Find a place for your indoor plants today!
