Whenever you are doing a renovation or construction project, research is the key to finding the right materials for the right places. Let’s look at one such material – drywall. Do you have a choice when it comes to selecting such a widely used building material? The answer to that question is yes, you do. Let’s analyze two types of drywall, the standard type, and paperless drywall, and see what areas of the home they are best suited for.
The most common type of drywall used is comprised of a gypsum center wrapped in super thick paper. This standard type of drywall is easy to work with, is generally easy to find, and delivers a nice smooth finish. The composition of standard drywall, however, puts it at risk of water damage and the problems that accompany it, such as mold.
Paperless drywall, on the other hand, has a water-resistant gypsum core that is covered with fiberglass, instead of paper. As you can imagine, this produces much stronger drywall with better resistance to water damage. The strength of paperless drywall, though, can also be its weakness, as it can be harder to install. Plus it often takes a lot more work to produce a desired smooth finish.
So, what should you conclude? Which drywall is best? The answer will depend on where you want to use it. Clearly, paperless drywall is better in more moisture-prone areas with higher humidity. Whereas standard drywall is good for large areas of the home that require a nice finish.
